Valentine’s Day – How we show love February 14, 2019 by Talia Roder“Mom I don’t like Valentine’s Day. It’s gross.” This is what my 7 year old daughter tells me about this day that is dedicated to love. I was quick to let her know that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love, it’s about love in general. It’s about showing love to your kids, your parents, your friends and even your pets! We can show love in many different ways. Sure there is candy, flowers, cards, dinner dates- all of the traditional ideas people have about Valentine’s Day. But I’m going to encourage you to think outside the box and show love by using the 5 Love Languages. They are 1. Words of Affirmation 2. Quality Time 3. Gifts 4. Acts of Service 5. Physical Touch. If you don’t know your own Love Language, you can take the quiz at www.5lovelanguages.com. We often show love in the way we want to receive it. My love languages are quality time and physical touch so those are things I find myself trying to give to my kids and my significant other. But their love languages are completely different. Each of my children have different love languages (kids can take the quiz too!). This Valentine’s Day- I encourage you to use the love languages to show love to everyone that’s close to you. And also- most importantly- receive love so that you can continue to give more and more of yourself each day!
